the only way that happens (which wouldn’t surprise me) is if the money lost is put on paying the artist rather than paying the record company. Kind of like if you’re late on a utility bill - you pay a late fee but that doesn’t stop or hurt the actual company in how much money they make. They’re going to make SURE they get theirs.
So sometimes I wonder if it works the same way….because that’s the only way I see the truth in that statement.
If the record company - who does little (making sure CDs get made and distributed, artists get promoted, etc) in the sense that they couldn’t do SHIT without an artist - took less, paid the talent more (which may keep them from having to be all over other products and accidentally annoying the hell out of a lot of people :cough: j hud :cough:) then maybe CD prices can come DOWN and people can (in a shit economy) continue to/be able to afford to support thier favorite artists in stead of looking for the local bootleg man or trading bought CDs with friends with CD burners.
Just saying. :)
It’s lots of ways to “fix” this “problem” - and the record companies could/would still make THE MAJORITY of the money - but what always prevents simple solutions is over done greed. 0_o
It’s sad.
*let me be clear - all things written from observation, heard/passed around random information about the industry that has been retained in my head and translated through my understanding and articulation, and with the help of this little pie chart that - from what I’ve heard thanks to reality TV among other things - looks pretty damn accurate - for the cases of some artists. And if I’m wrong - corrections are happily accepted or if you have a better theory or something by all means - hit me up. This is an issue I find easy to pay attention to - so I may discuss it more from only what I have and know. :)

I’d rather download all the music free and send a check directly to the singer. Or donate to a charity the singer...
